Latest APR numbers show Dogs are getting it done in classroom

By Chip Towers

ATHENS – Georgia athletes are getting it done in the classroom.

That was the findings of the NCAA in its annual Academic Progress Rate report, which was released Wednesday. All 20 of the Bulldogs’ sports met the NCAA’s minimum standards for eligibility, retention and graduation, with three of the teams posting perfect scores and 12 being ranked among the top six in the SEC.

“It takes the commitment of coaches, academic counseling and student services staff, and the student-athletes themselves to be successful,” Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity said. “This is a good example of how that teamwork can bring positive results.”

Georgia’s teams in men’s golf, women’s gymnastics and women’s swimming and diving teams had perfect scores of 1000. In addition, men’s basketball (3rd, 986), men’s indoor Track (3rd, 976), men’s outdoor track (3rd, 973), men’s cross country (5th, 985), women’s cross country (5th, 996), men’s swimming and diving (5th, 978), women’s golf (6th, 994), women’s indoor track and field (6th, 987), and women’s outdoor track and field (6th, 987) all finished in the top six.

Football ranked eighth (967) among the 14 SEC schools and women’s basketball was seventh (977). NCAA sports that fall below the established point cutoff of 930 are subject to penalties, including scholarship reductions. All of Georgia’s sports were significantly above the cutoff score. Football, women’s tennis and softball were the lowest among UGA’s teams at 967 each.

Georgia sports among the SEC’s top six include men’s golf (1st, 1000), gymnastics (1st, 1000), women’s swimming and diving (1st, 1000),  Among other sports, UGA women’s basketball ranked 7th (977) and football ranked 8th (967).

The APR index, now in its ninth year, is designed to serve as a predictor of graduation success. The most recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores from the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 academic years.

Bucket,

Speaking of fact, let me self- correct. Donnan is in the hands of a Federal jury. I just said jury. Sorry

Too bad these grades don't translate  onto the football field ,hardwoods and the diamond field for UGA athletics. Maybe there is hope in wining a national championship in under water basket weaving!

What re the APR Index Scores for the other SEC Schools especially ones that do not place much importance on academics like Auburn. Just curious.

Chip, are you sure you won't to beat your chest concerning Ga's grades?

As we speak,  Jack Bauerle, the swimming coach is being investigated

of fixing grades. Ga has always been suspected of it all the way back

to Jan Kemp days.  He has been with Ga since 1979. Plenty of time to to alter grades.

The first person to comment on this should have their posts hidden and all subsequent posts should be blocked.  We all know what this whack job is going to say and it adds nothing to the conversation.  Each post is a waste of space.

Go Dawgs.

@Delusionaldog so what are you going to say when the B!G backs out of there proposed 9 game conference schedule?  Well?  The real football conferences can't help if you B1G fools want to posture and tie your hands behind your backs.  Nobody made you do it.

Cowards are schools that refuse to play good teams from other conferences.  Like Meyer backing out of the home and home set up for 2020-2021.  Facts sir.  The Suckeyes backed out.  Gag on it.

@WhiskeyBreath fixing A grade for his star swimmer.  That is probably common place for 99% of all colleges in the country.  It doesn't make it right but it sure as hell makes any opposing fans giant hypocrites to say a single word about it.

@NCDawg  tell us, nc, what does your post add? I referenced a fact about the article and a question for fellow posters to ponder.

You?  Personal attack. Atta boy, nc. Atta boy.

@Delusionaldog @NCDawg I know you have mental problems but why even reference me in this thread?  I made no comment for you to reply to.  Chaulk up another notch on the "whack job" scoreboard.  By now there isn't enough room for all the marks.

@Delusionaldog @NCDawg And the Buckeyes missed out on a chance to play for a MNC last year because they were on probation. Just another inconvenient fact...

@Delusionaldog so what?  They got whipped by the only decent teams they played.  And everybody on these blogs told you it would happen.  LMFAO!
