Richt’s newest Bulldog is a granddaughter

By Chip Towers

As Mark Richt gets his 14th season as Georgia’s football coach under way this week at the SEC Media Days, you carries another title with him to Birmingham.

Just call him Grandpa.

The latest addition to the Bulldogs’ first family is Jadyn Elise Richt, born to Mark Richt’s oldest son, Jon Richt, and his wife Anna last Wednesday.

Richt hasn’t commented yet on becoming a first-time grandfather at 54. But, as you might imagine, the whole affair has played out rather publicly over social media.

Jon Richt, 24, played quarterback at Clemson and Mars Hill College before settling in at UGA as an offensive quality control assistant this past spring.

Richt will appear with other UGA coaches Mark Fox and Scott Stricklin at Gwinnett Center  before UGA Day on Tuesday evening. Richt will be at SEC Media Days on Thursday. The Bulldogs get their preseason camp under way on August 1.

Great news. Congrats!

Congratulations to the Richt family. Anyone that uses an article like this to pound an agenda needs to re-examine their own life and priorities.

Jon Richt is a "volunteer" quality control assistant, whose wife just gave birth to Mark Richt's first grand child.

WhiskeyBrains and you other hating clowns need desperately to find a life.

Congrats to the entire Richt family....

Congratulations to the Richt family.  Nothing like a sweet child to brighten up your life and give you a reason to want to succeed even more.  Best of luck to the sweet little girl as she grows.

Ga taxpayers ought to be concerned that Brother found a job for his son at taxpayers expense.

Some places call that nepotism. It is not enough Brother makes 4 million a year while averaging

4 or 5 loses a year, but now his kid is on the payroll. How does that make you guys feel that have been

unemployed? Boy, Jon really pay his dues for that position!.

Bascially it tells everybody the rich get richer, and won't have to work too hard for it.

Notice Mike and Chip quietly communicated the job to us.

Man, they are always running out of material, nepotism topic could have lasted a week or so.

But no, let's tell the humps the good news!

You would have thought the King has been born.

Brother, you are probably reading this, I mean every word.

I would be interested in knowing the state of Ga.'s policy on hiring your relatives.

Hey ThomasBrown - you sure do throw out a lot of negatives towards the Dawgs -  maybe it's time for you to find a new team. I hear Georgia State and Kennesaw State are looking for new fans - and you probably wouldn't have to ante up much for prime seating and b******* rights.

This is a happy day for the Richt family - show a little bit of heart and compassion - but that's probably asking too much!

Congrats on the newest member of the Richt family and hopes for lots of happy days ahead.

I hope Richt didn't get his Celebration Cigars from Morris.

@ECDawg7 Yea, so Jon is going to provide for a wife and child on volunteer status?

Right, that is how it works. Generally people provide for a family with a regular income.

So basically you are saying Jon has figured out a way to pay for his family being a volunteer.

So what credentials does Jon have for such a high position?

@GaTechOldTimer

You got that right at # 27 in Won/Lost Record the latest, most-recent 4-year period.  And, what's up on Nepotism with Jon Richt now offensive quality control assistant ?

If you want some fun then go to al.com and join in on the Nick Marshall fun and the Bama DL arrest article. There have been 3 Marshall articles and two went over 2k with the 3rd headed that way. The Bama article is headed that way as well. Not sure why the AJC closed the deal on both Marshall and Morris.

I learned a long time ago that - for me - there's more to life than sports and football in particular. As always - it's where we place our priorities - and in my life - God and family comes before football and rivalries.

@KeepOnSmilingWetWillie Because they don't play for UGA.  If they did, you can bet that we would have had more than enough opportunity to comment and speculate on what was going on.  BTW, I hope the Lord smiles on the newest little Richt.
