ATHENS — In honor of Bob Taylor, who passed away this past Thursday at the age of 70, we share with you Georgia’s version of the Famous Flea Flicker play.
Taylor’s late touchdown led the Bulldogs to an 18-17 upset of the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide in 1965. It remains one of the greatest plays in UGA history.
Of course, Alabama folks see the play a little differently. Coach Bear Bryant was certain Pat Hodgson’s knee was down before he lateraled to the reversing Taylor and this replay indicates that might have happened. But those were the days before instant replay and overrule by review. And so it shall always stand as a touchdown and a Georgia ‘W.’
