Ten@10: Richt says ‘anything is possible’ regarding UGA’s quarterbacks

  • 10:03 am Tuesday, September 30th, 2014 by Chip Towers

THE TEN AT 10:

1. To be clear, there is not a quarterback controversy at Georgia and Hutson Mason is not about to lose his starting job. But coach Mark Richt did not summarily discount the notion that he might consider sending a sub into a game to run the Bulldogs’ offense.

“I think anything is possible,” said Richt, answering a question posed by a listener on his radio call-in show on Monday night. “I’m not going to sit here and start trying to tell the whole world what we’re going to do before we even talk to our players about how [More]

Rewind: Bulldogs running the football at a record pace

  • 9:55 am Monday, September 22nd, 2014 by Chip Towers

MONDAY MORNING REWIND

1. Georgia went into the Troy game this past Saturday with a plan of throwing the ball around a little more. But that didn’t happen. The Bulldogs ended up rushing for 367 yards on 39 attempts, or 64 percent of the time. That was up from 62 percent in the previous two games.

Coach Mark Richt said that trend had more to do with opportunity than philosophy.

“There were some times we had passes called that (quarterback Hutson Mason) checked out of because they were vulnerable to the run,” Richt said Sunday. “So a lot of it had to do [More]

Ten@10: Todd Gurley on track to run down Herschel Walker’s TD record

  • 9:56 am Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 by Chip Towers

THE TEN AT 10:

1. To use an old Southern saying, Todd Gurley is starting to get into some tall cotton.

For you transplants out there, that means his production has been bountiful. For example, the junior tailback scored another touchdown (should’ve had at least one more, but that’s another story) against South Carolina this past Saturday. That gave him five this season and 38 for his career.

Do you know how many players have scored more touchdowns than that during their UGA careers?

That’d be one. Some kid from Wrightsville named Herschel Walker who played back in the 1980s.

Gurley had 131 yards on [More]

Rewind: Bobo’s call debatable but offense not why Bulldogs lost

  • 12:11 pm Monday, September 15th, 2014 by Chip Towers

MONDAY REWIND

ATHENS – Georgia lost to South Carolina 38-35 in its SEC opener on the road this past Saturday. The No. 13-ranked Bulldogs are now 1-1 overall, 0-1 SEC heading into Saturday’s noon game against Troy (0-3)  at Sanford Stadium. Or right about where everybody expected them to be at this point.

Now for The Rewind …

1. Georgia’s decision to call a bootleg pass on first-and-goal in the fourth quarter Saturday night at South Carolina has been roundly criticized. Even coach Mark Richt said that, in retrospect, the Bulldogs probably should have “hammered it” with a Todd [More]

Ten@10: ‘229 Boys’ back in the fold for Georgia offense

  • 9:54 am Wednesday, June 18th, 2014 by Chip Towers

THE TEN AT 10

1. Word coming out of Georgia’s football complex is that the Bulldogs’ “229 Boys” – Malcolm Mitchell, Jay Rome and Justin Scott-Wesley – have progressed nicely in their rehabilitations from leg injuries and are now working out full speed with the rest of the team in summer conditioning and practices. This is good news and, if it holds true through preseason camp, is a big deal for the Bulldogs’ offensive fortunes in 2014.

High offensive production has been almost taken for granted the past couple of seasons under the direction of quarterback Aaron Murray. Now it’s Hutson Mason’s [More]
